Tonbridge Welcomes Refugees is a group of local people who came together in September 2015 as a response to the worsening refugee crisis. We became a registered charity in July 2017, which is run entirely by volunteers. Our common goal is to work with our councils to bring refugee families to safety via the government’s Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme and to welcome and support them in their new homes. We help by befriending, English language support, helping to provide essential household and other items, helping to organise local outings and social events and making small hardship grants when appropriate.

We also do outreach work to raise public awareness of refugee and asylum issues, and have run a number of assemblies and talks in local schools, churches and local groups.

Our aim is to make refugees and asylum seekers feel safe and welcome in our community.

How can you help?

Are you interested in helping to support refugees in our area? There are many ways you could get involved with our work and make a real difference to the lives of refugees newly arrived in or moving to Tonbridge.
Private landlords participating in the resettlement scheme are invaluable and we are in need of more.
