WELCOME! A COMPETITION FOR

YOUNG ARTISTS AND POETS

Tonbridge Mayor Mark Rhodes with the winning entrants

20 –26 June was Refugee Week, and we celebrated all the amazing contributions refugees make to our society.

To mark the occasion, we invited all children and young people of school age to draw a picture or write a poem inspired by the theme of Welcome!

We were overwhelmed by the quality of the entries but with great difficulty our judges, local artist Angela Dewar and Tonbridge poet Margaret Beston, produced a shortlist and chose winners in both primary and secondary categories.

Tonbridge Mayor Mark Rhodes announced the winners on 16 July, and awarded certificates to all those shortlisted. Their poems and posters are on display in Tonbridge Library for another week - don't miss it!
