Social Gatherings

Arriving in a new country as a refugee can be a very isolating experience, especially when you don’t know the language. One of the benefits of our teaching programme is that it provides a regular meeting place for the Syrians living in our community, where  - as well as learning English – they can build relationships with others who are experiencing the dislocation of moving so far from home.

In addition to this, we are working with Tunbridge Wells Welcomes Refugees to arrange social gatherings, at which all of the families in the area can get together to have fun and socialise with each other and with our volunteers. The first of these gatherings is taking place in Tunbridge Wells on 11 March, and we are really looking forward to it.

Many thanks to those who have offered to provide transport, or to help set up/clear up. The idea is that these gatherings should happen once a month, sometimes in Tonbridge and sometimes in Tunbridge Wells.
