Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees

Sevenoaks Council – which had previously failed to commit to welcoming any Syrian refugees under the government programme - has just voted to accept one family. This is an excellent development in a borough that has been much less forthcoming in helping refugees than neighbouring Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells.

Well done to all of those who have worked to encourage the council to take this step, including by collecting signatures for a petition on Sevenoaks High Street. There is also an online petition which anyone who lives in Sevenoaks can sign - additional responses will still be
a useful indicator of support.
In light of these developments, there is now a community group getting together in Sevenoaks, to provide the same kinds of support we are offering in Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells. Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees will have its inaugural meeting on Friday 10 March – anyone interested in getting involved should contact or search for the Facebook group 'Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees'.
